About Mahlia Simpson

Mahlia Simpson has been acclaimed as one of Australia's most exciting and promising new talents.

Just 23 years of age, Mahlia has notched up a huge list of career highlights, as a television presenter, actress and singer, and she is currently seen on air as host, presenter and associate producer of Foxtel’s Eat, Play & Stay (screened on Aurora Channel 183). Eat, Play & Stay has taken Mahlia to New Zealand, Hamilton Island, Port Douglas, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Sydney, Byron Bay, Canberra, Darwin and Perth.

Mahlia worked as a researcher on Seven's Today Tonight before returning to host and present City Life and at the same time, she is completing her Bachelor Journalism degree, by correspondence.

Mahlia made her television presenting debut on Channel 31 in Melbourne in 2005, on the lifestyle program City Life and later concurrently hosted and presented on the station's Kid's Life.

She scripted the first season of City Life, presented all celebrity interviews and produced segments throughout both seasons. Mahlia was nominated as Best Female Presenter at the 2005 Antenna Awards.

In December 2005, Mahlia was invited to present C News Updates across the Christmas/New Year period, and her fill-in job turned into a permanent position when she was offered a regular weekly news-reading position with C News.

Mahlia broadened her television experience early in 2006 when she worked as a researcher and scriptwriter for both The Breakfast Show and C News Focus.

The Breakfast Show saw Mahlia researching and scripting news for this live-to-air program. In her role with Channel 31's current affairs program C News Focus, Mahlia co-hosted the program, instigated story ideas, arranged talent, researched stories, interviewed guests, wrote links and contributed to the editing of the final vision.

Mahlia later contributed to C News Specials, which involved coming up with story ideas, presenting, scripting links and segments, organising talent, researching stories, interviewing talent, filming other presenters' segments and contributing to editing.

Mahlia's extensive television experience has also included a guest role in Network Ten's Neighbours, as Belinda Ewitt, the love rival of Delta Goodrem's character Nina Tucker.

Mahlia has sung on many top-rating television programs, including the Nine Network's The Footy Show and Channel 7's Good Friday Appeal Variety Gala, and she was the subject of a special 7 Nightly News report which documented her career.

Mahlia has performed in some of Australia's most prestigious venues, including The Crown Casino's Showroom, Athenaeum Theatre, National Theatre, Chapel Off Chapel, Capers Melbourne and Metro Nightclub.

She was a featured artist on the Sonicboy CD release 100% Melbourne, and has worked closely with music producers Adrian Hannan and Sam Panetta, and Tony Hunt, with whom she has written several songs.

In 2007, Mahlia made her film debut in Frank Howson's still-to-be-released feature, Remembering Nigel, in which she appears with Rhonda Burchmore, Judith Durham, Bert Newton, Charles 'Bud' Tingwell and Molly Meldrum.
